A New Day  24 x 36

I took a break from working on the little studio boards and completed a couple of large paintings. This one was actually the inspiration for one of the studio miniatures. After  laying in the design, I saw it as a tonal painting, so I completed the small one "Winter Fog."  I'll get back to doing more studio miniatures later this spring.

#9 Winter Fog - from the studio - literally

Winter Fog  5 1/4" x 7 7/8" done on a 3/4" pine block from the studio renovation. It's a challenge painting on this surface, trying to use the bumps and scratches on the natural wood, instead of the usual sterile perfect surfaces of prepared canvas and panels. This painting reflects my response to the misty weather we have had recently here in Marshville. I love the warm browns of the late fall and the serene grays of a foggy morning.

#4 Goldfinch

The goldfinch is one of over 65 species of birds at High Ridge Gardens. My studio is on a 39 acre property listed on the North Carolina Birding Trail. (www.HighRidgeGardens.org) This little gem is 5 1/2" x 4" on a 3/4" piece of pine leftover from the studio renovation.
